The 1996 RS 125 uses the second body style introduced in 1995, with the air intakes moved up into the mid fairing, a rounded headlight and a digital readout in the dash, still on three-spoke wheels. A Rotax single-cylinder two-stroke sits in a cast aluminium twin-spar frame with a 40 mm upside-down fork and a single 320 mm front disc, giving it the feel of a scaled-down GP bike. For 1996 it was also sold in Max Biaggi replica colours, black with Chesterfield graphics.
