The 2009 RS 125 kept the 2006-generation package: a Rotax-built 124.8 cc reed-valve two-stroke single in a cast aluminium twin-spar frame, with a radial-mount front caliper and a 40 mm upside-down fork. It remained the benchmark small sportbike and a Sport Production racing favourite, and Italian magazine Motociclismo voted it the best bike in its class for 2009. Output depended on market: 28 hp is the unrestricted figure, while European A1-licence bikes were listed at about 15 hp.
