The first Tuono was a limited, numbered run that turned the RSV Mille R superbike into a naked bike. Aprilia removed the full fairing, fitted a small frame-mounted nose fairing and wide handlebars, and kept the full-power R engine. The kit was expensive: Öhlins suspension and steering damper, light OZ wheels, carbon-fibre panels, a gold-finished frame and swingarm, and a titanium Aprilia Racing exhaust supplied with a matching engine chip. Its success led to the cheaper standard Tuono for 2003.
