For 2012 the standard Tuono V4 R carried on without technical changes, with new colour choices being the main difference from the 2011 bike. It kept the RSV4-derived 65° V4, Sachs suspension and Brembo radial brakes, but did without the APRC rider aids and quickshifter fitted to the more expensive APRC version. It remained the cheaper way into Aprilia's V4 naked bike.
