The TXR 312M followed the TX 311M as Aprilia's late-1980s trials bike, keeping the 277 cc rotary-valve two-stroke single and six-speed gearbox in a chrome-moly frame. The most visible change was a disc brake at the rear as well as the front, together with Betor suspension at both ends and an even smaller 4.5-litre tank. It was part of the trials range Aprilia built up before its Climber won the 1992 world championship.
