The first 500 Quattro gave Benelli an Italian four-cylinder road bike. Its transverse single-cam engine echoed Honda's CB500 four, and early bikes used drum brakes front and rear. The four-stroke engines were built by Moto Guzzi at Mandello for the De Tomaso group.
