This entry covers two BMW research vehicles that sit between a car and a motorcycle, both put on display at the BMW Museum in Munich in October 2009. CLEVER is a narrow three-wheeler for two people seated in tandem, running a small natural-gas single and leaning into bends under computer control, built to show how low city-car emissions could go. SIMPLE is a lighter-looking enclosed tilting vehicle with a very slippery body that leans like a motorcycle and only uses hydraulics at walking pace or when stopped. Neither went into production; they were studies in low-energy urban mobility.
