A design study by the BMW Motorrad design team and Roland Sands Design, unveiled at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este in May 2013 to mark 90 years of BMW Motorrad and 40 years of the R 90 S. It paired an air-cooled boxer twin, finished in black, with hand-made aluminium bodywork in a Daytona Orange tone, an LED round headlamp and Roland Sands-made exhaust, controls, Paralever arm and air filter. BMW described it purely as a concept, but press coverage regards it as the forerunner of the R nineT that reached production later that year with quite different styling.
