Unveiled by BMW Motorrad at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este in May 2019, the Concept R 18 was a pared-back custom cruiser built to show off a new 1800 cc air/oil-cooled boxer twin. It wore a cradle frame styled like a hardtail with a hidden cantilever shock, Solex twin carburettors, an exposed chrome driveshaft and 21/18-inch spoked wheels, with electrics reduced to the starter and lights. The concept previewed the big-boxer Heritage cruiser that BMW put into production as the R 18 for 2020.
