The R 100 CS succeeded the R 100 S as the sporting unfaired boxer, using the 70 hp high-compression engine with a small handlebar cockpit fairing and slightly less weight than the S. It could not match Japanese 1000s for acceleration, relying instead on durability, finish and easy owner maintenance.
