For 1991 the standard R 100 GS moved to a 24-litre tank and, according to German data, a contactless Hall-sender electronic ignition. The engine and Paralever chassis carried over, so it remained a torquey, comfortable dual-sport tourer that was easy for less experienced riders, though period tests noted fork dive under hard braking and a slow gearbox.
