The R 1150 R replaced the R 1100 R as BMW's naked boxer roadster, using the 1130 cc four-valve engine and six-speed gearbox from the R 1150 GS. It got cleaner, more modern styling with a distinctive front mudguard and a smoother line from tank to seat, plus a new exhaust and stronger EVO front brakes with optional partly integral ABS. The result was a relaxed, torquey all-rounder rather than an outright sports bike.
