For 2000 the R 1200 C (by now the Classic) gained fresh colours, revised ignition and injection electronics and an adjustable hydraulic rear shock, while BMW broadened the cruiser line with the darker Avantgarde and the single-seat Independent. Core specifications, the 61 hp boxer, five-speed box and shaft drive, stayed the same.
