The R 1200 CL turned BMW's R 1200 C cruiser into a full touring machine, adding a handlebar-mounted fairing with a distinctive four-lamp headlight cluster, panniers and a top box. The 61 hp boxer was carried over, but a six-speed gearbox with a tall overdrive top gear kept revs low on the highway. With cruise control and integral ABS available, it was BMW's answer to the big American touring cruisers.
