For 2008 the R 1200 GS was updated with a 12:1 compression engine, a hotter camshaft and a raised 8000 rpm limit, taking output to 105 hp. Steering geometry was sharpened and the wheelbase shortened slightly, while a new front strut and a slimmer tank-seat join moved the rider forward. Enduro ESA electronic suspension adjustment and ASC traction control became available as options.
