The Touring Special was a factory equipment bundle for the freshly revised twin-cam R 1200 R, aimed at riders who wanted the naked roadster ready for longer trips. It added a model-specific comfort seat, sport windshield, a pair of lockable 32-litre panniers with luggage rack, heated grips, an on-board computer, centre stand, LED indicators and a chrome silencer. Engine and chassis were those of the standard R 1200 R.
