The R 1200 ST arrived in 2005 as a sportier successor to the R 1150 RS, sharing the new 110 hp balance-shaft boxer, six-speed gearbox and shaft drive with the R 1200 RT. A lighter half-fairing, adjustable clip-on bars and screen made it noticeably lighter than the RT. Its vertical, hexagon-shaped headlight split opinion.
