The R 24 was BMW's first motorcycle after the Second World War, reconstructed from a pre-war R 23 because the original drawings had been lost. It gained a stronger 12 hp engine and was the first BMW single with a four-speed gearbox, but kept a rigid rear end. Strong demand (over 9,000 sold in 1949) helped put BMW back on its feet.
