The R 37 was a sports version of the R 32 developed by Rudolf Schleicher, with a new overhead-valve cylinder head that nearly doubled output to 16 hp. It became the basis of BMW's early racing machines and helped the factory dominate German 500 cc competition in the mid-1920s. Only 152 were built.
