The R 50/2 replaced the R 50 in 1960 with a strengthened engine but the same mild 26 hp output and low compression, so it ran happily on regular fuel. It kept the Earles-fork chassis and was valued as a smooth, quiet, long-lived tourer that cruised at 70-80 mph and pulled a sidecar well. It stayed in production for a decade and was widely used by police and government fleets.
