The R 50US was a late American-market version of the R 50/2, built in small numbers at the end of the 1960s. Its key difference was a hydraulically damped telescopic front fork in place of the Earles leading-link fork, which suited solo riding and gave the bike a more modern look. The 26 hp engine and four-speed shaft-drive driveline were carried over from the R 50/2.
