The off-road version of the R 68, modelled on the works bikes BMW entered in the 1952 International Six Days Trial in Austria. In place of the road bike's twin low silencers it carried a high-level two-into-one exhaust over the right cylinder, with wider bars, a raised number plate and other trial fittings. Privateers also used R 68s in the event, including a British rider who finished the 1954 ISDT in Wales on an over-the-counter machine.
