The 1972-1973 R75/5 is best known for its smaller tank with chrome side panels, nicknamed the 'toaster', and H4 headlamps became available in 1972. Late in 1973 production BMW lengthened the swingarm and rear frame to improve high-speed stability on motorways, creating the long-wheelbase bikes that the /6 series carried on.
