BMW file

The R 80 GS replaced the G/S in 1987 and introduced BMW's Paralever, a double-jointed swingarm that tamed the shaft-drive jacking of the Monolever. It also brought a 40 mm Marzocchi fork, a bigger 285 mm front disc, cross-spoked rims for tubeless tyres, a 17-inch rear wheel and a larger tank, while the kickstarter was dropped. It sat below the 980 cc R 100 GS as the lighter, simpler 800 cc option.
