Around 1990-91 the R 80 GS was restyled after the R 100 GS Paris-Dakar: a rectangular headlamp set in a small frame-mounted fairing with tubular guards, an adjustable screen and a new instrument panel with large speedometer and tachometer. A bigger sump guard, K-series style switchgear and an accessory socket rounded off the update, while the 50 hp boxer and Paralever chassis were carried over.
