The R 80 GS Basic was a farewell edition of the two-valve GS, dressed to recall the original 1980 G/S in white with a blue frame. It was assembled largely from existing parts: the R 80 GS engine and Paralever chassis, the smaller R 80 ST-type tank, round headlamp with speedometer only and no tachometer, and it dropped the fairing, crash bars and side stand. It was the last BMW with the two-valve boxer in GS form.
