Introduced in 1982, the R 80 ST was a road-going spin-off of the R 80 G/S enduro, keeping its light Monolever chassis but with shorter suspension, a 19-inch front wheel, road tyres, lower bars and no kick-starter. Reviewers loved its agility and light weight, yet buyers wanted a conventional tourer and sales fell short of BMW's hopes.
