The R 80 ST ran unchanged into 1983 and 1984 as BMW's light, G/S-derived roadster. Its upright bars, supple Monolever ride and nimble handling suited bumpy back roads, but limited wind protection, modest performance and a small tank kept it a niche choice, and it was replaced by the new Monolever R 80 in 1984.
