Final years of the original R 850 R roadster before the 2003 update. Alongside the standard bike BMW offered a Classic version with a more traditional look, sold only in Night Black with a black seat; mechanically it is the same 848 cc four-valve boxer with Telelever and Paralever, aimed at riders who wanted an easy, comfortable everyday bike with optional luggage, ABS and heated grips.
