BMW file

The R 900 RR was BMW's works boxer-twin rally bike, built by HPN after BMW decided in 1998 to race its twins alongside the F 650 RR singles. The four-valve boxer was cut to about 900 cc to fit a lighter class, kept carburettors for tolerance of poor desert fuel, and swapped the Telelever for a conventional WP upside-down fork. After 1999 outings in Tunisia and Dubai it contested the 2000 Dakar, where Jimmy Lewis finished third, and ran again in 2001.
