An experimental superbike project from around 1989 to 1992, in which BMW built a liquid-cooled 996 cc boxer with desmodromic double-overhead-cam heads into a twin-spar aluminium frame with Telelever and Paralever suspension. Only four prototypes were made and the bike was dropped, reportedly because the protruding cylinders defeated the aerodynamic targets. BMW did not field a production superbike until the four-cylinder S 1000 RR many years later.
