BMW's first 'Adventure Sport' four: the S 1000 R's 999 cc engine retuned for low and mid-range pull in a new aluminium frame, with long-travel suspension, an upright GS-style riding position, a 20-litre tank and a long swingarm suited to two-up touring. It is aimed at fast road riding rather than off-road use; Rain and Road modes and ASC were standard, with a Pro pack adding DTC, ABS Pro and Dynamic modes plus optional Dynamic ESA.
