The Rocket III was BSA's 740 cc transverse triple, sharing its engine with the Triumph Trident but with a distinctive forward-sloping cylinder block and a double-loop cradle frame. It was fast and smooth for its day, but its styling had a mixed reception. The first-generation bikes had a four-speed gearbox and drum brakes.
