The S1 Lightning was the naked, sport-oriented Buell built around the air-cooled Sportster-derived 1203 cc twin with belt final drive. It was a stripped, lighter alternative to the faired S2 and S3 Thunderbolt models and sold in the middle of the S1 production run.
