The SP was the higher-spec 748, a smaller-capacity sibling of the 916 aimed at the 600 Supersport class. It had a reduced bore and stroke, a lighter flywheel, a closer-ratio gearbox, an Öhlins rear shock and cast-iron Brembo discs. A 1995 road test found it very quick above about 7,000 rpm but firm and tiring in town.
