The 1998 SS redesign by Pierre Terblanche brought a full fairing, fuel injection, ST2-derived Showa suspension and Brembo brakes. For 1999 the bike received new graphics, Brembo wheels, higher bars, a taller screen and an aluminium swingarm. It gives up some peak power for strong low-rev torque and a light, narrow chassis.
