The 999R was the limited, numbered, track-oriented flagship of the first 999 range. It used a revised Testastretta with a larger bore and shorter stroke for higher revs, carbon-fibre bodywork developed in a wind tunnel, Öhlins suspension with TiN-coated forks, forged Marchesini wheels and radial brakes. A numbered plate sat on the fork yoke, and a race kit with Termignoni exhaust and dedicated ECU was available. It is small, demanding and very quick.
