The first production Hypermotard brought a supermoto riding position to the road, using an air-cooled two-valve 1078 cc Desmodue derived from the Multistrada 1100. It has a trellis frame, wide tapered bars, a long motard-style seat, Brembo radial monobloc brakes and folding mirrors with integrated LED indicators. The 1100 base model uses a Sachs shock and cast wheels.
