The prototype that launched the Hypermotard idea, shown at the Milan show in 2005 and positioned between a sportbike and a minimalist supermotard. Some inside Ducati doubted riders would accept it, but the upright dirt-bike riding position paired with a smooth L-twin won it a place in production. The finished Hypermotard 1100 reached the market after it.
