The Monster 400 is the small-capacity entry to the Monster family, using a short-stroke 398 cc desmodromic L-twin first developed for Ducati's Japan-only 400SS, in a chassis shared with the larger Monsters. It revs freely and is light and agile, with an upright riding position that suits town use, though it is hard to start cold and the front brake is sharp.
