This later Monster 400 gained 43 mm Showa upside-down forks and a slightly longer wheelbase over the 1994-99 version, while keeping the same 398 cc air-cooled desmodromic twin. It remained the light, torquey small-bore Monster, with strong mid-range for its class and well-regarded Brembo brakes, aimed largely at markets with engine-size licence limits.
