Ducati file

The original Monster, designed by Miguel Galluzzi, put the air-cooled 904 cc 900SS twin into a stripped-down frame with minimal bodywork. It used carburettors, a 6-speed gearbox and inverted Showa forks, and the first run was small (a few thousand bikes) before demand turned it into a core Ducati model. Reviewers liked its light, quick steering and midrange punch, but found the forks firm and the riding position hard-edged.
