The S2R 800 joined the Monster range in 2005 as the entry model of the S2R/S4R family, using the 803 cc air-cooled two-valve twin with the APTC slipper clutch. It brought the single-sided aluminium swingarm, five-spoke wheels and a high-mounted twin-silencer exhaust of the bigger models, plus a wide 180-section rear tyre. Reviewers liked its fun midrange and brakes, and disliked the stiff seat and lack of wind protection.
