The S4R replaced the S4 as the top Monster, using the 996 superbike engine with a claimed 113 hp. It was recognisable by its twin high-mounted silencers on the right, a single-sided aluminium swingarm, extra carbon trim and fully adjustable Showa suspension. Press tests praised the acceleration, handling and looks but noted a heavy clutch and abrupt low-rev fuelling in town.
