The S4RS was announced in late 2005 as the flagship Monster, pairing the 998 cc Testastretta twin with Ohlins suspension, radial Brembo brakes and carbon bodywork. It was aimed at riders wanting a naked bike with superbike-grade hardware. Testers praised its engine, brakes and suspension but found the riding position tiring and the price high.
