The ST3 swapped the older two-valve motor for the 992 cc three-valve Desmotre L-twin, giving the sport-tourer more power and a broader spread of torque. It kept the trellis frame, Showa fork and Sachs shock, with a practical fairing, comfortable seat and 21-litre tank for long trips. It was the middle bike in the ST range between the ST2 and ST4.
