The 1982 FXRS launched Harley-Davidson's new FXR chassis, derived from the Tour Glide frame, with the 80 cu in Shovelhead now rubber-mounted to cut vibration, a five-speed gearbox and belt final drive. Magazine testers saw it as a turning point: a traditional V-twin in a modern-handling frame with good brakes and shifting, held back by its rear suspension and riding position.
