For 1984 the Sport Glide received the new aluminium-top-end Evolution V-twin, which cured much of the oil seepage and heat problems of the Shovelhead it replaced. Belt final drive took over from the enclosed chain during the year. The fairing, hard luggage and air-adjustable suspension carried over, keeping it Harley's most sporting touring model.
