For 2000 the Fat Boy switched from the Evolution to the new Twin Cam 88B, a counterbalanced version of the Twin Cam built for the Softail's rigid engine mounts, which needed a revised frame. The bigger 1449 cc engine brought more torque and less vibration, and the bike also gained improved brakes, while the solid-disc wheels, wide FL front end and shotgun exhausts kept its signature look.
