After skipping the 2004 model year, the 883R returned for 2005 on the new Sportster chassis introduced in 2004, with a rubber-mounted engine to cut vibration and a wider 150-section rear tyre. It kept the XR750-inspired orange-and-black look, blacked-out engine and flat-track style bars of the original. The engine was still the carburetted 883 cc Evolution twin.
